That was the assignment.
Design and construction of a laser welding system for three-dimensional machining of complex customer parts in the cleanroom of RJ Lasertechnik GmbH. Within a 3D processing area of 400 x 400 x 400 mm, it must be possible to approach each processing point at any spatial angle. Laser welding is performed in pulsed and continuous mode.
And that's how we solved it.
A pulsed QCW fiber laser with 150 W average power and 1500 pulses, as well as good beam quality (200 µm multimode fiber optic cable), was selected as the laser source. The heat conduction welds achieved this way connect sensitive components from medical and semiconductor technology in a vacuum-tight and gentle manner. The entire system was designed from stainless steel to meet the cleanliness requirements of the cleanroom.
The necessary dynamics are achieved with linear actuators and torque motors in the axis drives. The 5-axis toolpaths, calculated at the highest level by the Fanuc CNC control, are generated from the customer's 3D data sets of the components and implemented in MasterCAM. In 2.5-D machining, the possible machining area is as large as 600 x 800 x 400 mm. A maximum path accuracy deviation of 20 µm can be achieved in this application.
The granite machine gantry prevents vibrations from the machine or the building. The fully air-conditioned and dust-free atmosphere in the processing area guarantees absolutely consistent weld quality, 24/7, all year round.
